I’ve Moved

I’ve Moved

New site.  New moniker.  New life.  Same me. Find my musings, rantings, and other -ings over at:   I'll be keeping this site up for posterity.  Because at some point I might try to run for office, and this repository of random thoughts from a mid-twenties misanthrope will provide fecund soil for all anti-Jeremiah sound bites that might be necessary for my opponent. Also, I just might want look back on this stuff someday (that or my daughter will...yikes), and be entertained by cringing for hours at a time. Regardless, I'll see you fine folks over…Read more …
Dispensing Indiscriminate Justice

Dispensing Indiscriminate Justice

It's been an interesting facet of my life that I've never been chosen for jury duty.  Not once in the 20 odd years that I've been of legal peer judgin' age has the State of Texas summoned me to serve in the courtroom. Until today. And I think I've figured out why.  After we covered emergency exit locations, and where to properly store snacks (you can bring snacks?), our drawling judge arrived and let us all know (repeatedly) that he expects "people of good moral character to serve on my juries."  I have…Read more …
Pale Leo – Part II

Pale Leo – Part II

[[Part 1 can be found HERE]]   And so now, 90 days after cutting all bread, refined sugar, potatoes, rice, pasta, dairy, and anything else that's even remotely carbohydrate-related out of my diet, where exactly do we stand? The answer is...I'm not sure.  (How's that for a payoff?) Honestly, I haven't weighed myself in the past 2 months.  So the actual amount of weight loss is all theoretical until I visit the doc for my follow-up next week. That being said, I dropped down to a comfortable size 36 after just 6 weeks.  I assumed that…Read more …
Pinion

Pinion

I was still in bed this morning, reading very important things about the fallout over Blizzard and Valve double-booking their upcoming tournament events, when a sudden bass thump jolted me fully awake. I looked over to where the sound had come from. There, stuck to the window, was a small spray of spittle and a dust mark that was vaguely wing shaped. So I swung my legs out of bed, walked over to the window and looked down. Crumpled in a mess of feathers and tiny scaled claws, was a dove, brown against…Read more …

Brothers of the Briar

Albert Einstein William Faulkner Bing Crosby J.S. Bach Bertrand Russell Mark Twain Gandalf Jeremiah Shaw That's right bleuxpees, I'm smoking a pipe. And despite what that picture might lead you to believe, I am still awesome. I actually started about a year ago, but found that I hadn't quite exorcised the ghost of Philip Morris from my system. So, out of a concern that I might get pulled back into sucking on those little, white, filter-tipped devils, I promptly set the pipe aside. I don't ever want to have to go through quitting…Read more …
Dooz…I Duz Them.

Dooz…I Duz Them.

So, as I was making my way back to the new Townhouse o' Horrors with a Jeepload of random detritus collected from the house formerly known as the Shaw residence, I stopped at a gas station for a beverage. I picked up a bottle of water and began performing the "Dance of the Cramped Gas Station FoodMart." Lean to the right to close the refrigerator door! Pirouette around the spinning map display! Lift arms while sliding past the chip rack! Swivel hips past the candy to face Bibhu the attendant, who appears to…Read more …

Dahlink, I Love You, But Give Me Park Avenue

Yep. Updatin's a bit scarce 'round these parts. Sorry about that; I've a helluva lot going on. Not the least of which is prepping to move in about three weeks. So we called off the search for a dog-friendly, non-ghetto house in the Heights (qualification: one that rented for less than $2,100 per-month), and have instead decided to move into my mom's old townhouse. Obviously I wouldn't classify the average townhouse as a "dog-friendly" domicile, but what it lacks in backyard, it makes up for in transience. See, we're still trying to buy…Read more …
