Extra Life 2010

Extra Life 2010

So, it's that time again... Time to nestle into a thickly padded office chair, strap headphones the size of cereal bowls to your noggin, and rock 24 hours of non-stop video gaming...all while ingesting enough Red Bull and Brother's Pizza to induce heart murmurs in a mastodon. Yes, it's time for Extra Life. The M0nk3ys had an awesome time at my little apartment last year, although I do think we underestimated how difficult the hours between 5 and 8am would be. (Around that time it becomes quite clear why they call it a…Read more …
Scars of Mirrodin

Scars of Mirrodin

It's cardboard-slinging, mana-tapping, planeswalker-charging, geek time again! As such, anyone who has zero interest in Magic: the Gathering would do well to come back tomorrow. Thanks. Are they gone? Okay... So, despite the throttling I took last July, I decided to hit up the same local gaming shop this past Saturday for the Scars of Mirrodin pre-release tournament. This had less to do with being a glutton for punishment, and more a feeling that I'd simply pulled horribly unlucky cards during the M11 pre-release. And for anyone thinking that's an exhibition in sour…Read more …

Dork Moon Rising

So, I'm going to attempt the utterly ridiculous tomorrow... I'm going to play in a Magic: The Gathering tournament. A Pro Tour Qualifier to be exact. Yes, I'm willingly wading into swaths of unwashed geek dander, all to play a goofy ass card game. (Although I suppose it's no worse than the booze/cigarette stink of a poker tournament.) Now this will mean absolutely nothing to 99% of you, but I'll be playing a deck that relies on Kiln Fiends, Distortion Strikes, Lightning Bolts and Soul's Fire. I'll try to take some pictures of…Read more …

Year of the Geek

So, in the interest of keeping them all in one easy-to-find place, here are just a few of the geektastic things I'm looking forward to in 2010. May 4, 2010 - Mike Patton's "Mondo Cane" album released. Hilarity ensues. And IRead more …

Geek Recursion

And, as if a World of Warcraft hack weren't geeky enough subject matter for a blog post, I'm going to raise the Nerd Quotient to the 7th or 8th power by admitting that I've gone out and purchased some Magic: The Gathering cards this week. And yes, that's a rather embarrassing admission. It's been over a decade since I last darkened the door of a hobby shop with the intent of purchasing Magic, and I'm not sure this new development is an improvement on my life. I'll tell you something I'd forgotten though.…Read more …
Sweeping Up

Sweeping Up

Okay, that rated a "MAUVE" on the Advisory Scale of Sucktastic-osity. I spent the past 24 hours making changes to every single password I use, on every website I visit, every program I use, and every email account I have. And that's a whole lot of loggin'. But I think I've shored up all the leaks, and have emerged relatively unscathed. *knocks on wood* It seems the only thing they wanted was gear from my World of Warcraft characters, to be sold for in-game gold, which will then be turned into RL cash…Read more …

L4D2 Incoming

Good Lord...he's posting on a weekend!Actually that's not true at all. I'm just dropping in to say hi. I have a fiancĂ©e who's currently reading on my couch and, no offense to any of you, but I'd much rather curl up with her and watch Sunday Night Football than stare at this LCD screen and type.Besides, I can't do a whole lot else on the computer at the moment since Left 4 Dead 2 is downloading in the background. (Yes, I'm pre-downloading the game so it'll be ready to play the moment I…Read more …
